Seniors & Medicare Beneficiaries FAQs

Must I live in Durham County to receive assistance from Senior PharmAssist?

Our direct service area covers Durham County only. However, if you live in North Carolina and don’t know where to turn for prescription help, you can call and we will link you to resources we know about in your area.

What’s the best way to obtain help from Senior PharmAssist?

The first step is to call our main number (919-688-4772). That allows our staff to get a better idea of the type of help you need and to schedule you for an appointment. Sometimes, we can help individuals remedy problems or address concerns over the telephone.

Does Senior PharmAssist charge for its services?

Most of our services are provided at no charge, including help with Medicare drug plan selection and tailored referral to community and governmental resources. Participants who qualify for our direct financial assistance owe a modest co-payment at their community pharmacy for medicines we cover (no more than $2 for generics and $5 for brand-name medications); and Medicare beneficiaries who exceed our income guidelines for financial assistance may still obtain medication therapy management services from one of our specially trained clinical pharmacists on a sliding fee scale.

I have Medicare drug coverage but am still struggling to pay for my medicines – what can I do?

Call Senior PharmAssist. Our staff can help you maximize your medication benefits. For example, you may qualify for federal and/or state subsidies that could significantly reduce your out-of-pocket expenses. You may also be eligible for Senior PharmAssist’s financial assistance or other resources, such as drug company assistance programs.

I need help with obtaining other services – can Senior PharmAssist tell me whom I should call?

Yes, our program provides Durham seniors and younger individuals with tailored referral to a variety of community and governmental resources, which can save much-needed dollars and help promote independence.

I’m homebound and can’t get out to see you – can you still help me?

Yes, our staff makes home visits for participants who cannot leave their residences. We also pay for medical transportation if necessary for individuals who have no other way to get to our office.
