Evester B. Bailey, Treasurer, Chair – Finance Committee
Evester is a retired mental health administrator and former Director of the Northern Piedmont Family Support Network. He has served on numerous local nonprofit boards and is very involved with St. Joseph's AME Church.
Richard M. Burton, At-Large Member – Executive Committee
Rich is Professor of Strategy at The Fuqua School of Business, with particular interest in organizational design and strategy. He serves on NCCU’s Hospitality Advisory Board and Durham Schools Roundtable, and values that we help people obtain the medicines they need.
Amy R. Csorba
Amy is a private family physician who believes that patients should be empowered in their own care - in part, through effective communication from healthcare providers. This is something she teaches as a small group instructor at Duke University Medical School. Amy has also volunteered with the TROSA medical clinic and Urban Ministries.
Stephen C. Dedrick
Steve is a pharmacist and Director of Continuing Education at the Eshelman School of Pharmacy, UNC-Chapel Hill. He is also President of the Durham-Orange Pharmaceutical Association and a board member with the NC Association of Pharmacists.
Colleen Fitzpatrick
Colleen is Assistant Vice President for Trinity College and Undergraduate Education at Duke University. Colleen's 20+ years of experience as a collegiate development officer only tell half the story; she also holds a Master's degree in Gerontology. This unique combination makes her especially qualified to advance our efforts. Colleen is also active with Immaculate Conception Church and in volunteering with teens.
Margaret Gradison, President
Maggie is a family medicine physician and Medical Director of the Physician Assistant Program, Department of Community and Family Medicine, at Duke University Medical Center. She is involved with our program because of our impact on seniors’ lives and is also interested in the political process as it relates to healthcare. As Board President, Maggie is an ex-officio member of all our committees
David J. Halpern
David is a primary care physician and a physician consultant with Community Care of North Carolina. He is a member of the American Geriatrics Society and first learned about Senior PharmAssist while completing a geriatrics fellowship at UNC-Chapel Hill. David is also a gifted musician: he sang extensively in college and plays piano, cello and dabbles in banjo!
Brenda D. Jamerson
Brenda is Associate Professor, Department of Clinical Research at the Campbell University School of Pharmacy and is Director of the school’s Clinical Research Center. She chaired our FY 2006 Leadership Gifts Campaign and is also involved with the Community Health Coalition and Durham Academy of Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy.
Finny Joseph
Finny is a pharmacy manager and owner of Main Street Pharmacy in downtown Durham. He supports a number of causes, including many in the developing world, but is also eager to share his professional expertise and business experience to further the mission of Senior PharmAssist.
Charles M. King, Jr.
Chuck is a retired hospital pharmacy director and the retired Executive Vice President and CEO of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Research and Education Foundation. Chuck was one of eight volunteers who helped our staff assist more than 500 Durham residents during Medicare Part D open enrollment for 2010 and has served in leadership roles with a number of organizations, including the Congregation at Duke University Chapel and The Forest at Duke Residents' Association.
Cheryl L. Lloyd, Secretary
Cheryl runs LeMay and Associates Consulting, is former State Leader for Urban Programs with North Carolina Cooperative Extension, and is also a past Senior PharmAssist board member. We're delighted to welcome her back. Cheryl has also been involved with Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, the Durham Partnership for Children, and the Partnership for a Healthy Durham.
Wendy McCorkle
Wendy is an investment associate at Self-Help and brings both finance and professional fundraising experience to our board. She has been a long-term mentor via the Big Sib program and is currently a board member with The Forest at Duke and Treasurer of First Presbyterian Church.
Katherine L. McKee, Chair – Development Committee
Kathy is an attorney specializing in tax and estate planning, charitable giving and estate administration, and is a partner with Kennon, Craver, Belo, Craig & McKee. She has served in a leadership capacity with the boards of Durham Academy and Durham Regional Hospital, and is past Treasurer of the Junior League of Durham and Orange Counties.
Lisa B. Nadler, Chair – Formulary Committee
Lisa is a physician at Triangle Family Practice, past Board President of Senior PharmAssist and an amazing advocate for her patients. Even when she had to rotate off our board a few years ago, Lisa remained active on our Formulary Committee and continued to help with fundraising. She is also active with SWOOP (Strong Women Organizing Outrageous Projects) and other community activities.
Rosa J. Nolen
Rosa is an accountant and Financial Systems Access Coordinator at UNC-Chapel Hill. She has been involved with a number of organizations, including Habitat for Humanity, the Girl Scouts, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
Robert K. Otterbourg Chair – Nominating & Leadership Development Committee
Bob is a “semi-retired” consultant and author. He provided marketing advice to Senior PharmAssist in the mid-90s via the Executive Service Corps and remains a prolific writer. He’s also an active board member with other organizations, including the Durham County Library and Threshold.
Marie H. Sappenfield, Vice President, Chair - Outreach Committee
Marie is a nurse and is interested in helping us spread the word about our services. She lives in northern Durham County — one of the areas we’ve targeted for intensive outreach — and in addition to Senior PharmAssist, serves on the board of ACRA (AIDS Community Residents Association).
Margaret W. Smith
Margaret is a retired nurse practitioner with the Durham County Health Department. During her career, she worked with the late Dr. Charles Watts, pioneering surgeon and founder of Lincoln Community Health Center. Margaret is a very active member of Fisher Memorial United Holy Church and its partnering congregations.
Gina Upchurch, Executive Director
Gina is Senior PharmAssist's founder. She was born in Durham and raised in Reidsville, N.C. Gina earned her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and her Master’s degree in Public Health at UNC-Chapel Hill. She also completed a residency in Geriatric Pharmacy Practice at UNC-CH. Between degrees, she served as a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer teaching science in Botswana. For a more complete bio on Gina please look under Staff.
Marqueta Welton, At-Large Member – Executive Committee
Marqueta is Director of Durham County Human Resources. She served as Deputy City Attorney in North Las Vegas, Nev., before moving here. Marqueta is interested in elder care law and appreciates that our program focuses on preventive health services.
